Resistance: Fall of Man

Hi-Tech Weapon

It's hard to categorise the Auger as it's range is very finite, but the speed at which the bullets travel doesn't make it ideal for close range combat, unless the foe is behind a nearby wall. Its unique selling point is the fact that it can fire through walls, which means you can catch enemies unawares, but it also means they can do the same to you.

The Auger itself is used by Steelheads, who are formidible foes. The Auger makes a very distinctive sound when being fired through a wall and where it is penetrating the wall is also very visible, but when there are multiple Steelheads raining bullets down, it is sometimes difficult to know where to stand in order to avoid them.

Obtained: The Auger is acquired during the first playthrough in Manchester - "The Cathedral". After fighting off the hordes of Leapers, two Steelheads will attack through a dust cloud. Kill them and they drop the Auger.

Tip: While the crosshair does go red through walls, it doesn't mean they will still be there when the bullet reaches them. To be guaranteed of success, make sure you leave no room for error and completely spray the target area with bullets.

Auger Online

The Auger can be a very effective weapon in the right hands, as it can travel through solid objects. If someone is camping on the other side of a wall, just fire through it and make sure you have the last laugh. While the Auger can fire rounds quickly, the projectiles themselves don't travel as quickly, especially if travelling through a solid object. So make sure you allow for this when firing at a foe.

What can also make the Auger quite useful is the secondary fire. This enables impenetrable (apart from another Auger) shields to be placed infront of the wielder of the weapon, but as just mentioned, the Auger can still fire through these shields. This makes the Auger a good defensive weapon, just try to make sure you don't get cornered in somewhere when the shields expire.

Tip: Firing the Auger through solid objects, such as a wall, makes the bullets more powerful. If a bullet travels through walls and hits an opponent in the head or body (depending on the amount of walls) it can provide an instant kill! It's easier said than done though.

Note: Contrary to common belief, firing through the shields made by your own Auger actually weakens bullets. So if you put up four shields and start raining hell down on an opponent, don't be surprised if he doesn't look too bothered about it.
