Resistance: Fall of Man

Explosive

The Frag Grenade, along with the M5A2 Carbine is a starting weapon in the single player campaign. Unlike in the online mode though, six Frag Grenades can be held at any one time, so when you get them, make sure you use them to take out multiple enemies in a single throw.

The Frag Grenade is exceedingly powerful and can easily kill Hybrids and other low order Chimeran forces. Don't be surprised if a Steelheads gets back up after being hit though, as they like to take a lot more punishment.

Tip: Although Frag Grenades are often plentiful, they're never around when you could really use them. So always make sure you have one or two in reserve just incase you suddenly get swarmed by enemies, because they can be used to clear our two or three in one go without any real effort.

Frag Grenade Online

Every Human soldier spawns with one Frag Grenade, but they can pick up another one to increase their load to two if they find a Frag Grenade spawn. They are the most generic of the grenades in the multiplayer mode, but they are arguably the most deadly as well.

Frag Grenades can be thrown exceedingly far, but they don't always go where the crosshair is pointing due to gravity. If thrown too far, they will also explode in the air as they have a timer. So if throwing at short range, bear this in mind.

Tip: If you're getting penned in, or are being forced backwards, make sure you throw a Frag Grenade down to cover your tracks. Who knows, someone might walk into it and get you out of what could have been a very awkward situation!

Target Bomber: The Target Bomber ribbon can be obtained by using a Frag Grenade and it's also a very good way to get quick kills. To perform this maneuver, throw a grenade so it lands at an opponents feet and it will instantly explode for an instant kill!

Resistance 2

Just As Potent

(^Top) Old reliable is a phrase often coined, and it holds true with the standard issue Fragmentation Grenade in the US Military's arsenal. It returns in Resistance 2 and is probably the most frequent grenade type to appear throughout the main bulk of the campaign.

Like before, the Frag Grenade is exceedingly powerful, and it can also be bounced off walls if the angle isn't too great. It will explode a few seconds after it has landed, or if it lands at an opponents feet, it will detonate instantly.

Restricted Usage Online

Cooperative: Out of the three available classes, only the Soldier is allowed to use a Frag Grenade. This provides the class with an apt level of destruction given the purely damage dealing nature of everything else its provided with.

Competitive: Unlike in Resistance: Fall of Man where Humans always spawned with a single Frag Grenade, that has been replaced in Resistance 2 and it only appears tied together with certain weapons. Each grenade type has their advantages and disadvantages so choosing the right weapon combination is now all the more important.

Resistance Retribution

If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It

(^Top) The Fragmentation Grenade returns in Resistance Retribution, except this time it has been slightly modified by the Maquis. It still packs quite a punch, but unlike the Frag Grenade seen in Resistance: Fall of Man, it doesn't have a timer based on when it's thrown. Instead, it starts when the grenade hits the floor.
