The Hedgehog Grenade, is a Chimeran weapon and the only Chimeran grenade in the game. It was developed as an antipersonnel weapon as humans are weak to spikes.

Once thrown, the grenade lies dorment until it reacts with the floor. Then, it springs up from the ground and explodes, sending spikes flying in all directions. This makes it a valuable asset, as you can plan where you wish the grenade to detonate. The grenade itself is used frequently by Chimeran forces during the game, but they also have a trap which causes a similar effect and they can be deadly, so be weary of them.

Obtained: The Hedgehog Grenade is acquired during the first playthrough in Grimsby - "Fate Worse Than Death". After picking up the Rossmore 236, continue a small way through the level and the Hedgehog Grenade is in a doorway.

Tip: Throw the Hedgehog Grenade slap bang into the middle of a pack of low-order Chimera and listen to their muffled cries of pain and anguish.

Spike Grenades Online

Hedgehog Grenades provide a middle-ground between Frag Grenades and Air Fuel Grenades. While they're slightly weaker they explode as soon as they hit the ground (not before), and there is no delay once they land. If thrown against a wall they will fall to the floor and then activate and spray spikes everywhere. This means they're handy for for bouncing off of walls to catch un-suspecting foes off-guard.

Hedgehog Grenades are generally better against Human soldiers due to their spikey nature, but they are still effective for splash damage against Chimeran forces.

Tip: Hedgehog Grenades can be good for doing partial damage to oncoming foes and while they can instant kill if a Target Bomb is managed, they probably won't if it isn't. So make sure you continue the assault in conjunction to their damage.

Target Bomber: The Target Bomber ribbon can be obtained by using a Hedgehog Grenade and it's also a very good way to get quick kills. To perform this maneuver, throw a grenade so it lands at an opponents feet and it will instantly explode for an instant kill!

(^Top) Hedgehog Grenades in Resistance 2 are basically identical to those in Resistance 2; they even look the same. The Hedgehog Grenade remains awesome at killing foes in tight spaces.

Using The Hedgehog Grenade Online In R2

Cooperative: The Hedgehog Grenade is a starting Grenade for the Medic class. They're very effective for taking out some of the weaker enemies suck as Hybrids, but not very useful against some of the stronger ones. Be sure to save them until a group of Hybrids are together for maximum effectiveness.

Competitive: The Hedgehog Grenade can only be used with certain weapon combinations, but it's a very effective resource to call on if needed. Again, it's always best to wait for crowded enemies to populate for maximum damage, but even if it's just to give yourself some time to escape it's still a very effective tool.
