Resistance: Fall of Man
Sniper Rifle
The L23 Fareye is the British Army's custom made sniper rifle and it is the weapon of choice for Lieutenant Cartwright, a British Commando. It is also used (very badly) by some British troops on the Nottingham 'Conduits' level.
With a good solid headshot, the Fareye can take down most Chimeran adversaries, and even the Steelhead will go down in one shot. On the later difficulties achieving headshots on such foes can make life a lot easier. Also, in the offline mode, not using the scope won't result in an accuracy penalty as the bullets go exactly where the crosshair says.
The secondary fire also makes life a lot easier as it slows down time, allowing you to line up the perfect headshot on oncoming foes. It isn't finite though, so make sure you keep an eye on the bar, while also targeting the enemy.
Obtained: The L23 Fareye is acquired during the first playthrough in Nottingham - "Conduits". After battling against your first Titan, you will be rewarded with this trusty sniper rifle.
Tip: Fareye ammo is quite sparse, so make sure you don't waste shots. Use the secondary fire at all times so that missed opportunities don't happen very often.
L23 Fareye Online
The L23 Fareye is the only sniper rifle in the game and it is quite different from its offline counterpart. In the online mode, it doesn't have clips, but instead becomes a single shot weapon which needs to be reloaded after each shot. However, it does have 15 bullets in reserve, which means you can fire all the bullets in approx 9 seconds, if you feel inclined.
The other notable omission for the online Fareye is that it has no secondary fire. Obviously the logistics of such a secondary fire would make the online environment rather impossible, so it was removed completely, but it's an extremely powerful weapon without that being included anyway.
Tip: Although camping isn't advocated, it's generally the best way to rack up the sniper kills. However, don't be surprised if people catch on to your position and try to flush you out, so keep your wits about you and try to stay one step ahead of the enemy.
Resistance 2
Back With A Boom
The L23 Fareye makes a triumphant return in Resistance 2's single player campaign. It is pretty much identical to its appearance in Resistance: Fall of Man, but the secondary fire seems to be much more effective now.
Whereas before, the slowdown effect used to depleat relatively quickly. Now, if used properly, an entire clip can be used while slowdown is used for every bullet.
Tip: The most effective way to use the slowdown is to press secondary fire while not scoped. This will instantlly scope in, allowing you to quickly find your target. As soon as the shot is fired, let go and find your next target and repeat.
Still Good, But Underwhelming
Cooperative: The L23 Fareye can only be used by the Spec Ops class, and it's the second weapon that they can obtain. Whether the player wishes to use it depends on their needs, as there is no slowdown option in the online section of the game. This means that using the Bullseye might be more useful, especially if you're being charged by enemy forces.
Competitive: In Resistance: Fall of Man, the L23 Fareye was probably one of the best weapons, especially on Lexington. However, perhaps that was its downfall as it's now much more difficult to master. It still takes two shots to the body to kill people, but due to the new health system, it is much harder to get kills this way. It has also been made a lot harder to get headshots as the aiming system is much less forgiving now.
