The Schrotflinte is primarily used for close range urban combat and shares many traits with the American made Rossmore 236 and Rossmore 238. Like both of these weapons, it has two modes of fire; the primary mode is a single shot, and the secondary fire allows the user to fire both barrels at the same time for maximum damage.

Although the Schrotflinte can be effective against enemies such as Leapers, it is far more effective at close range against some of the game's stronger enemies. Titans are extremely susceptible to the Schrotflinte, and three shots of the secondary fire will usually take down a Titan from full health.

It's also important to note that this weapon is very ineffective at long range, so it should only be used when in close proximity to the enemy.
