Resistance: Fall of Man
Experimental
This Weapon is Available in the Single Player Campaign Only.
The Splitter is a weapon developed by the Chimera. However, they seldom use it due to the huge risk of collateral damage as the projectile can be split numerous times, which allows it to cover a large area.
The Splitter's sole purpose is to cause considerable damage over a wide area, which is why firing not-split projectiles does not really do much damage. It works on the bases that each projectile can do the same amount of damage, so when they're all grouped together they only do as much damage as one would on its own. To get the maximum effect, two or three splits should be performed, as this will cause 27 and 15 times the damage of a single projectile respectively. Obviously all of the projectiles must hit for this to be the case though, which makes it good against enemies that take up a lot of space.
Zero Splits: When the weapon is initially fired, it fires a single shell.
One Split: When the original shell is split once, it splits the original shell into three individual shells.
Two Splits: When the original shell is split twice, it splits into 27 individual shells, although they're tightly aligned in three columns.
Three Splits: When the original shell is split three times, it forms 15 shells, which are spaced out evenly in five columns. Each column then contains three shells per row.
Obtained: The Splitter is acquired during the second playthrough in the London - "A Desperate Gamble". After going through the mall, it is on the top level at the far-left corner just before venturing outside.
Tip: It is possible to plan ahead, and although the projectile can be split after it has been fired, sometimes it's better to split the projectile before it leaves the gun. Holding down the primary fire button causes the projectile to stick to the end of the gun, which means that it can be aimed to precision.
